HONEY, WE LOVE BEES

Bee hives with a smart box help keep the beekeeper informed about the living conditions of the bees and give warning in good time if there is any threat to their well-being.

SEE HOW THE BEES ARE DOING

Any beekeeper can watch over what is happening in three hives, but as the number of hives increases, more time is needed for checking them by hand, and so the greater the risk is of the beekeeper being met with bad news when opening a hive. Currently we have 9 hives.

DATA

Tests have earlier been run in various places on installing digital monitors for beehives, but there are few beehives that can transmit such comprehensive data. The aim of the test is to develop a solution that makes life easier for beekeepers and allows them to see quickly from their desktop the condition of the hives, so that they can act if needed and so ensure the well-being of their bees.

The information received is combined with real time meteorological data and sent to a cloud server. Researchers at Tallinn University and the University of Life Sciences then use the information gathered by the sensors to look for patterns that could signal a significant change in the living conditions of the bees, and the data analysis can also be used to prevent worse problems occurring, such as diseases in the hives, and so really help the beekeepers in their work. The beehive technology runs on electricity from the solar panels attached to it.

TECHNOLOGY

The beehive technology installed by the beekeeping company MÖMesi, the start-up company Aiomatic and Tehnopol on the roof of the science park building can monitor the internal temperature, relative humidity, CO2 level, VOCs, ambient light, and sound and air pressure in the beehive.

CONTACT

Smart Urban Beehives, placed on building rooftops, are revitalizing the rapidly diminishing biodiversity in urban areas. These beehives, managed by bees, contribute to the abundance of honey and fruits, thanks to their pollination.

Our advanced technology enables continuous monitoring of these hives, foresees potential risks, and allows for timely alerts to beekeepers. You can view the inner workings of a smart beehive online. If you're interested in installing a smart beehive on your rooftop, please provide your contact information, and we will reach out to you.
